Since the split, Hudson, 29, and Wilson, 39, have each been spotted letting loose. On May 9, Hudson and Bride Wars costar Steve Howey, 30, visited Boston's Liberty Hotel bar, Alibi. And on May 11, Wilson dropped by N.Y.C.'s Upstairs with two women.

"He was pretty chummy with the ladies ... he was certainly doing some sweet talking," according to an onlooker. "He looked happy to be there hanging with them." The late-night outing was followed by a visit to Butter the next night, where he chatted up a sexy blonde. Says a Hudson source: "She feels dumb thinking it was so serious."

Kate Hudson had a little unwanted early birthday cheer this week in Boston.

The bubbly actress doesn't turn 29 until Saturday, but she was surprised (apparently by the woman who owns the mansion where she is currently filming "Bride Wars") with a bizarre cake that didn't go down too well.

"I saw the cake," says an on-set snitch. "It was weird, in the shape of a woman/snake/lizard kneeling. The company who made it applied a photo of Kate's head to the cake - it looks like something they probably got from Us magazine."

Sounds, um, interesting.

"Kate accepted the cake halfheartedly, but didn't eat it. It was found under some crew jackets and garbage when the crew was wrapping up."

To be fair, more cake is the last thing Hudson would want while making this film.

Laughs the snitch: "The day before, she had spent the whole day working on a scene where all she did was eat wedding cake!"

'3rd Rock' veteran joins fray in 'Wars'

Kristen Johnston has entered the bridal war zone.
The former "3rd Rock from the Sun" actress has joined the cast of "Bride Wars," a Fox comedy feature starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway.

Hudson and Hathaway play two childhood best friends whose engagements come at the same time. Subsequent wedding planning results in them picking the same ceremony location, New York's Plaza Hotel, and because of a clerical error, the same date.

Johnston will play Hathaway's self-absorbed, opportunistic fellow schoolteacher. Candice Bergen is also aboard, as a wedding planner.

Principal photography is underway in Boston. Gary Winick ("13 Going on 30") is directing.

The pair has played lovers on the big screen in hit films Fool's Gold and How To Lose A Man In 10 Days, and now MCConaughey admits they're looking to make it a trilogy.
But first he has to learn to deal with free spirit Hudson's late arrivals.
She says, "He can't stand it when I'm late. It drives him crazy when I'm late. And every time I come to an appointment he just looks at me and he tells me I'm tardy.
"Every time I'm, like, 10 minutes late, he pulls this little face."
But, despite that, she can understand why MCConaughey wants to work with her again: "We are super close and we just, for some reason, really connected from the first movie we did.
"It continues and, like any good relationship you have with your friends, it can drive you a little crazy... We drive each other crazy, but in a good way - in a sort of loving way."
MCConaughey admits he's just looking for the right script: "We haven't found the thing yet but obviously we are keeping an eye out."

Candice Bergen has signed on to co-star opposite Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway in the romantic comedy "Bride Wars" for Fox 2000 and New Regency.
Story revolves around best friends (Hudson and Hathaway) who are pitted against each other when their wedding dates clash. They compete for venues, services and guests. Bergen will play Marion St. Claire, the queen of all wedding planners.

Gary Winick will direct from a screenplay penned by June Diane Raphael and Casey Wilson. Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith also wrote on the project.

Hudson is producing with Julie Yorn and Alan Riche. Matt Luber exec produces.

Shooting starts this month in Boston.

Bergen hasn't appeared in a film since 2003's "The In-Laws." She recently wrapped the remake of the ensemble comedy "The Women" for Picturehouse.

Warner Home Video has officially announced Fool's Gold which stars Matthew McConaughey, Kate Hudson, Donald Sutherland, and Ewen Bremner. The disc will be available to own from the 17th June, and should retail at around $28.98. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Hollywood actress Kate Hudson was almost forced to delay filming on new movie Fool's Gold, after her young son Ryder gave her a black eye on the eve of the movie's shoot.

The Almost Famous star admits the four-year-old - from her marriage to Black Crowes rocker Chris Robinson - is a troubled sleeper, and when he climbs into bed with her, she is often left with injuries from his constant "thrashing".

So she is thankful to spend some time away from the youngster, because it means she is able to get a decent night's sleep.

She says, "I can have a deep sleep on the plane - something I can never do at home because Ryder comes into bed with me every night."

"Ryder is such a thrasher, he falls out of bed at least once a week. One night - before the first day of shooting in Australia - he'd hit my eye so hard with his heel that I thought I was going to have a shiner (black eye) in the morning."

"Not great to turn up on the first day of work with a black eye. I put ice on it all night! I woke up every hour because it kept melting - otherwise I would have been a complete mess!"

Thomas Haden Church is to star opposite Kate Hudson in biopic Big Eyes.

The Spider-Man 3 star will play Walter Keane, husband of '60s artist Margaret Keane, reports Variety.

Margaret was famous for her drawings of children with big eyes, which were sold under Walter's name.

The independently-financed movie will focus on her "personal awakening" as a result of the feminist movement and the subsequent lawsuit over the right to use her own name on her artwork.

Hudson headed to Africa with famed photographer Peter Lindbergh to shoot the ad campaign for her new eco-friendly haircare line, David Babaii for WildAid (done in partnership with her longtime hairdresser). "We have a blast together," she says of Babaii. "I'm just lucky to have him as my companion while I travel and work."

Hudson, whose line will donate 10 percent of all sales to WildAid, shares camera time with a cheetah. She tells PEOPLE, "I really have a thing about natural product. It's very difficult to make things that are completely organic and sustainable. David and I got so excited about making something like that. Making something conscious and making it good."

Of the shoot, Hudson tells PEOPLE that working with a cheetah was "the most fun. He was purring. I remember listening to it and [asking], 'Should I be running right now because his purr sounds more like a growl?' But they're like, 'No. He's just super happy.' And I got really comfortable with it. And I would literally lay on the cheetah. It was really pretty cool."

The self-described "low-maintenance" star credits Babaii with keeping her blonde locks looking fabulous. "I'm really not good at doing my own hair," she admits to PEOPLE, relying on "sleep and water" to look good otherwise.

Babaii makes sure Hudson's hair is flawless for the cameras. "It's so great collaborating with Kate," he says. "I adore her. She's my muse and inspiration. We get in trouble all the time."

At the wildlife preserve, mom Hudson also bonded with some little ones – lion cubs! "Even though they're babies, they are lions. They were very sweet. I would put them on their back and rub their tummy. And they would love it!"

Production is tentatively slated for June, depending on the prospects for the resolution of a new SAG contract.

Hudson will play Keane, the painter whose distinctive creations featuring big-eyed children became one of art's first mass-market success stories in the 1950s. The drama covers Keane's personal awakening at the onset of the feminist movement, leading to a lawsuit she filed against her husband, Walter, who claimed credit for her works.

The film is being produced by Dan Halsted, Bonafide partners Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa, and Andrew Meieran, the latter of whom put up the financing on the film through his Bureau of Moving Pictures banner.

The producers just engaged Nicolas Chartier's Voltage Pictures to broker territory sales at the European Film Market in Berlin. Domestic rights will be sold later.

Voltage, started by Chartier and Dean Devlin in 2005, just wrapped the Kathryn Bigelow-directed "The Hurt Locker," and will be in Berlin repping "Phoebe in Wonderland," "Spread" and the horror pic "Open Graves."

Hudson, who opens Friday opposite Matthew McConaughey in the Andy Tennant-directed "Fool's Gold," next stars in the Gary Winick-directed New Regency comedy "Bride Wars."

It's one of the themes in Fool's Gold and a belief Kate Hudson holds in her own heart.

A year ago, soon after her split from musician Chris Robinson after seven years of marriage, Hudson took off for Australia to shoot the film.

"It was a difficult time for me," she says over a late breakfast at the Rose Cafe, after sleeping in at her nearby home. She orders a spinach omelet with egg whites, minus the Swiss cheese — wanting to look slim for a premiere later that week.

Taking off for five months was "probably the best thing I could have done," she says, "because there was just so much going on. It was good for all of us to be in a different place."

"Us" is Robinson and their 4-year-old son, Ryder.

Like her "foolish" character, Tess, who try as she might, just can't get her ex hubby, Finn (Matthew McConaughey), out of her head, Hudson has likewise remained close with Robinson.

"For me, the love changes form," says Hudson, 28, fiddling with her vintage tortoise-shell sunglasses she recently discovered in New York. "I have to remove myself for a little bit and ask for time with no contact."

After some distance, Robinson came with Ryder to visit her Down Under in Port Douglas. "Toward the end, the most difficult part was putting Ryder on that long flight back to Los Angeles," she recalls of the mother and son's three-week separation. "You zone out for those 14 hours, telling yourself he's fine. It's a lesson in letting things go. He was with his daddy and happy. But that transition for mothers is really hard."

Says Fool's Gold director Andy Tennant: "She was going through a tough time. Chris was down there quite a bit. It made it better for everybody that she had some sense of family and being a mom. Like most women who juggle career and family, she can turn on the Kate Hudson we all know when she's working, but when she's not, she's mom and watching out for her toddler."

Ryder, she says, is a very happy boy who has become a disciple of all things Star Wars, just like Hudson's older brother, actor Oliver Hudson (of CBS's Rules of Engagement), when he was a boy. In the bedroom they shared as kids, "Ollie" slept in his Star Wars sheets, while she snuggled in her Annie bedding.

When Hudson took Ryder to the FAO Schwarz store in New York over the winter, he "went out of his mind," she says. "He's all about his lightsabers. He got Yoda's lightsaber and the double Darth Maul one — pretty cool."

Though she prefers to have Ryder as close as possible during film shoots, she says some moms, like her own (Goldie Hawn), find it difficult to work with their kids around. "My mom was way more independent than I was," she recalls. "My mom traveled a lot and worked a lot, and she was way busier. And she wouldn't take us. When she was doing Private Benjamin, I remember she went away for three weeks and came back, and then went away for two weeks and came back."

Hudson's new constant on-set companion is Pomeranian Clara Bow, whom her ex-husband has dubbed "Delta Burke." She and Robinson share custody of their other two dogs: Doctor, a bulldog, and Bella, a mastiff she had given Robinson for a birthday.

For now, pets are preferable to paramours. The prospect of dating is totally unappealing. "I have no desire," she says, adding that she doesn't believe in exposing Ryder to men she introduces into her life. "If I go out, it's like once a month, and I end up in a tabloid with somebody lying about me. It's not fun, and it's not worth it."

Hudson sidesteps talking about former beau Owen Wilson, whom she visited after his suicide attempt, and explains it's too soon to discuss memories of her Four Feathers co-star, Heath Ledger. Hudson has found comfort in commiserating with Ledger's Brokeback Mountain co-star Ann Hathaway, her new friend and on-screen adversary in the soon-to-shoot comedy Bride Wars.

In both Bride Wars, due in 2009, and the comedy My Best Friend's Girl, scheduled for Sept. 19, Hudson plays an attorney. But in Fool's Gold, she is a simple servant on a yacht, and her ex-husband suddenly appears, in search of sunken treasure.

For their second on-screen go-around, the two learned to embrace their differences. "I drive her crazy," McConaughey acknowledges. "I've talked to her about being tardy. 'Come on, don't be tardy.' I always think I'm right; she always thinks she's right."

Just the idea of romancing McConaughey in real life causes Hudson to squirm just a bit in her chair. A "raunchy" sex scene they shot for the film (ultimately edited out) gave her a sense of how they'd fare as a couple.

"The fact that I couldn't stop laughing was a bad sign," she says. "He was making (grunting) sounds that I never heard of. No, Matthew and I wouldn't work."

Matthew McConaughey and his two-time co-star Kate Hudson are among those set to present trophies at next week's Screen Actors Guild Awards.

SAG officials said Wednesday that McConaughey and Hudson will be joined at the Jan. 27 awards ceremony by Denis Leary and Burt Reynolds, who are set to present the guild's 44th life achievement award to Charles Durning. Reynolds is a longtime friend and collaborator of the 84-year-old actor, who co-stars with Leary on the FX show 'Rescue Me.'

McConaughey, who announced Tuesday that he is expecting a baby with his girlfriend, Camila Alves, has shared the screen with Hudson twice, in 2003's 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' and the upcoming romantic comedy 'Fool's Gold.'

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY: We’re here in Paradise Cove [in Malibu] catching up on tape.

KH: We’re about to go see our movie, Fool’s Gold, for the first time. I’m nervous. [To the tape recorder:] He seems calmer than me. And we’re having a margarita and we’re talking about our lives and how well we have gotten to know each other over the years…. As a female, I’m just going to say, for the record, Glamour magazine, Matthew McConaughey is wearing a cream Western shirt, very simple.

MM: With snaps, not buttons.

KH: Mother-of-pearl snap buttons. Jeans, some very handsome brown boots and a cashmere cream beanie, which I might say is extremely complimentary. And he has a vintage brown jacket, 42 long.

MM: Burnt orange.

KH: It’s not burnt orange. That would be considered a camel, a dark camel. And he looks fine, fine, fine.

MM: Well, [Kate] is a rock ‘n’ roll hippie chick. She has got on her seventies jeans—tight to the thigh. And then big flares at the bottom. What kind of shoes you got on? She has on some rubber high-heel clogging pumps.

KH: They’re Yves Saint Laurent rain boots.

MM: Yves Saint Laurent rain boots.

KH: And they’re 18th Amendment jeans.

MM: She is posting 5’11”.

On getting a divorce: “The most difficult thing I’ve ever done in my life. The process of discovering with somebody that you love that you don’t… work is so painful. And thank goodness I did it with Chris… We helped each other through it. Now we’re both single and since the day we separated, we talk multiple times.”

On why it ended: “We had Ryder, and we both sort of looked at each other and went, ‘Something’s off.’”
On the last year: “It was just an extremely giant sort of leap. I definitely feel like I’ve grown up a lot.”

On shooting Fool’s Gold in Australia: “It was a really interesting time for me. It was right when Chris and I were getting divorced, and I didn’t want to be so far away, because it was hard for us. And it was the first time I sent Ryder to be with Chris while I was working, and that was definitely difficult. But it was probably the best experience I’ve had to date, in terms of everything as a whole.”

On Matthew McConaughey: “We’re like brother and sister! We seem to drive each other crazy in a good way. Matthew kind of puts it perfectly when he says that we fight well and flirt well, and we’re perfect pains in each other’s ass.”

On gaining 70 pounds during pregnancy: “I would be eating ice cream and my mom would literally pry the spoon away from me, saying, ‘You’ve had enough to last you a lifetime.’”

Anne Hathaway to Fight Bride Wars

Anne Hathaway has been set to star with Kate Hudson in Bride Wars, and Gary Winick has signed to direct the romantic comedy for New Regency, reports Variety.

Hathaway and Hudson will play best friends who are pitted against each other when their wedding dates clash. They compete for venues, services and guests, once it's clear that neither will step aside.

Hudson is producing with Julie Yorn and Alan Riche. Twentieth Century Fox will distribute.

Production will begin early next year, and the shooting script was completed pre-strike by June Diane Raphael and Casey Wilson. Karen McCullah Lutz & Kirsten Smith also wrote on the project.
